Welcome to the Children's Mental Health Services at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.


The Children’s Mental Health Service programs are staffed by Board-Certified physicians and a team of highly skilled and trained nurses and support staff.

We offer a full array of services for children and adolescents through their 17 th year including:

Child Inpatient Psychiatric Unit
Unit Chief – Irmgard Borner, MD – 718-240-8305

In-patient treatment for children between the ages of 6 through 13 is provided.

EOB: Two extended observations beds are available in the In-patient Unit to provide emergency treatment (up to 72 hours) for children between the ages of 6 through 17.

General Child and Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatric Services
A full range of clinical services available to the community including:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
  • Crisis intervention
  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Family therapy
  • Group psychotherapy
  • Pharmacotherapy
  • Short-term cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Inpatient Treatment for Children ages 6-13

 

Special Programs

School-Based Treatment Teams: Members of the professional staff are assigned to 12 elementary and junior high schools in the surrounding communities. Easy access for both patients and families facilitates care.

Child Day Treatment: A special program for children ages six to 12 who require a more structured learning and treatment setting than can be provided within the public school system. This program is supported by special support services for the parenting adults of the children. (718) 240-6242.

Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology Clinic: A professional staff with special expertise provides the necessary education and the latest medications to facilitate effective treatment. (718) 240-5997.
