The Department of Radiology is staffed by 12 full-time Radiologists in addition to the Chairman.
The Department of Radiology performs a full spectrum of services, including Radiological Imaging, Nuclear Medicine and Neuroradiology .
The Department’s section of Interventional Radiology performs all Interventional Radiographic and Angiographic procedures.
The Division of Nuclear Medicine performs the complete gamut of clinical diagnostic nuclear studies with both static and dynamic scans performed. Nuclear cardiac examinations are readily performed and interpreted as well as iodine therapy given for the treatment of thyroid disease. These examinations are facilitated by sophisticated medical computers that are networked to all of the imaging equipment in this division.
Interpretation of emergency CT procedures, are available to our Department, 24 hours a day.
The Division of Radiation Oncology has the expertise, and equipment to treat every type of cancer. Our physicians have extensive experience in advanced cancer treatment techniques.
In keeping up with the latest technology, the Department of Radiology has recently gone live with (PACS), Picture Archival Communication System. This allows for all studies performed in the Department to be taken, transferred and stored digitally. The net result is one giant Imaging Network, where all studies can be seen on computers and high resolution monitors located throughout the Institution. No more film is necessary to be stored or filed, and everything we now do is available to the referring physicians on line at the Hospital, in their offices on campus and soon to be available at home or remotely on a laptop computer. This technology has revolutionized the way radiology departments operate, and has made the practice of radiology more user friendly and efficient for the radiologists, referring physicians and house staff.
A study can be viewed on the patient floors with a complete interpretation, and the opportunity to manipulate the data on a screen via tools that can give and obtain more information to manage any patient.
We will also be replacing our existent MRI unit with a new Siemens 1.5 T Symphony System. This will provide for quicker, better examinations with many more types of studies available to us and the patients and community we serve. This project will begin on August 5th. The installation of our new Siemens CT in the Emergency Room has now been completed and we are once again performing quality and timely examinations for all patients treated in our emergency room, our designated Level I Trauma Center, and Stroke Center. |
