The Department of Surgical Services at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center is staffed by 15 Board-Certified full time attendings, and six part time attendings. Brookdale University Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center Our goal is to provide quality, compassionate and comprehensive care to our patients. The Department of Surgical Services is one of the largest departments within the facility. Many of our attending physicians are also Board-Certified in subspecialties. Brookdale University Hospital has applied for center of excellence status in minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures. Brookdale University Hospital performs over 10,000 surgical procedures yearly.

Bariatric Surgery: weight loss surgery as part of a comprehensive weight loss program
Bariatric In Patient Unit: All Surgical procedures are preformed at Brookdale University Hospital, the only hospital in Brooklyn with a dedicated in-patient unit. The state-of-the-art Bariatric Unit comprised of four private rooms located on the sixth floor of the Snapper Building. We offer a caring team of professionals in a sensitized environment, with special equipment and amenities to accommodate the patients’ special needs.
Breast Surgery
Critical Care: The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center is also a Level 1 Trauma Center. The Intensive Care unit is covered 24 hours a day by two surgical intensivist. The Critical Care unit is an eight- bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, which cares for all critically ill patients from all surgical subspecialties

Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery: The Department of Surgery at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center started doing advanced laparoscopic surgery on August 9 th 1990. Our surgeons are among the leaders in laparoscopic surgery in Brooklyn. Our surgeons and residents are trained in laparoscopic techniques and perform such procedures as cholecystectomy (gall bladder), splenectomy (spleen), small bowel surgery, appendectomy, hiatal hernia, colon resection, stomach resection, and bariatric surgery. Our faculty includes oncology surgeons who perform advanced procedures on a regular basis. Laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive and, couples a shorter recovery period with a lower risk of post-operative infection.

Pediatric Surgery: Drs. Neil Kutin and David Schwartz comprise the team of Board- Certified pediatric surgeons. They perform an extensive variety of standard and complicated cases in the pediatric age group.
